Three Steps Step One Step Two Step Three
- Measure the length of each wall starting on wall number one. Measure from point A to point B. If this is a straight wall kitchen then skip to the third bullet, which is a window and door measurement. If you have more walls to measure then go to the next bullet.
- Continue measuring around to the right and measure the total length of each subsequent wall whose designated wall numbers will be 2, 3, and 4 if needed. Measure points B to C, C to D, and D to A if needed.
- Give physical measurements of any windows or doors and their placement as to the appropriate wall. Depending on which wall the opening is on; this will dictate the measuring points.
- Measure the width of any and all appliances, in relation to what walls the appliances will be on and measure to the center of the appliances on its particular wall. Give also the physical dimensions of the individual units. It is also important to note whether the range is a freestanding, drop in, or a slide-in range. The height of the refrigerator is also important. It will affect whether a wall cabinet can or should be used and if so, the cabinets height.
- Measure to the center of any plumbing, ducting, electrical outlets, and switches. (Plumbing and electrical outlets may be moved to accommodate a particular design.) Anything that will interfere with the placement of a cabinet you must make a note of it and take into consideration. Examples could be a post or structural beam. If there are, give the exact measurements of and the location of these obstructions.
